About TouchPoint

Electronic information is the lifeblood of any modern business - where five years ago a company could survive without email for days, weeks or even months, now the same company would struggle after just hours. And it's not just email that has become a vital electronic data source; accounts information, purchasing and production schedules and CRM packages are now all held electronically.
Over 90% of businesses that lose their data centre for more than a week go out of business within a year.

So, how do you stop yourself from joining this statistic? TouchPoint - the Remote Data Backup & Restore service from Smartways.

TouchPoint offers agentless, centrally managed backup schedules for desktop PCs, servers and applications. These backups are collated on a server held locally - the TPLS. This data is then itself encrypted and sent via the internet to Smartways secure data centre located in Northampton. Just to be extra safe, the data is replicated one last time, to an ultra-secure data centre in London.

TouchPoint will compress and encrypt your data before sending it to Smartways data centre. TouchPoint uses 256-bit encryption to secure data both whilst being sent over the internet, and whilst it is held at Smartways. To ensure complete security, only the person with the correct encryption key has authority to view, edit and restore data. Compression is necessary, to minimise absolutely the volume of data being sent over the internet. It can often reduce the data volume by as much as 50-60%. Another way of reducing backup volumes is the TouchPoint method of only sending incremental backups, meaning that instead of having to send 100GB every backup, this is often reduced to as little as 5GB.

The TouchPoint service has four main aspects:

  1. TouchPoint Enterprise - for multi-platform server and desktop backup & recovery.
  2. TouchPoint Application - for applications and application servers.
  3. TouchPoint Client Lite - this is the TouchPoint Client software, for backing up laptops and other devices that do not have a permanent connection to the company network.
  4. TouchPoint Complete Business Continuity - this offers a high availability solution for Exchange, SQL, Oracle and file/print servers.
